It's almost 2011! But we have 4 classes in December to look forward to...

I can't believe but December 2010 is just around the corner already. Before we know it we will be wishing everyone a Happy New Year in 2011. But before we do that we still have time for 4 classes in December - hooray!
Due to other bookings at the Budokan we have to push the class start time back to 4:30pm for a couple of weeks. So next week and the week after (Dec 2nd and 9th) the class start time will be 4:30pm. Then we will go back to 4pm starts on December 16th and 23rd.

In the December 23rd class we will have a test for all students of English and karate skills. So please work hard in December so that you can all do your very best on this day. I will explain the test in our class next week.

The Budokan is closed from December 28th - January 5th, so no classes during this time.

The first class of 2011 will be on Thursday January 6th starting from 4:30pm.

Thanks everyone. Keep practising your English and your karate!

Typhoon hits Okinawa so no lesson this week

Sorry everyone but with these high winds and typhoon conditions I had to cancel today's lesson. And there will be no lesson next week either due to the karate seminar on at the Budokan. So I won't see you guys for a couple of weeks but please keep practising your English and your karate at home instead!
Hope to see you all on November 11th when we will be back on schedule as usual.

Lesson 2 was lots of fun! Next week we start at 4pm.

Hi guys and thanks for a really great session on Thursday this week. This was our second Karate4Kids lesson and everybody was full of energy and worked really hard on speaking English and learning some new moves including a first look at Basic Kata 1. I'm amazed at how fast the kids are picking up new words and growing in confidence to use them. Well done everyone!

Next week we will run Lesson 3 from 4PM, so an hour earlier start than this week. See you all at the Budokan 3F!

Great first lesson - thanks kids!

What a great first lesson we had, full of energy and fun, thanks to a fantastic bunch of kids. So very well done to the kids for all the karate and English speaking talent you all showed.

In the lesson we had fun getting warmed up doing some movement and counting games such as running, jumping, rolling and racing to either North, South, East or West.

Then we had a good stretch starting from our head and working down through neck, shoulders, arms, hands, hips, back, knees, ankles to our toes. We all counted 1-10 as we did our flexibility exercises.

Next we started our karate training with some basic techniques such as straight punches and kicks in 1-2 or 1-2-3 combinations. Everybody did very well and Angelina, Miyu and Towa did especially well in leading the counting from 1-10. We got lots of 'kiai's from everyone showing great spirit and
energy all round.

Finally we finished with some more word games such as moving like animals - elephants, lions, rabbits, kangaroos, and another round of N/S/E/W as the kids liked it so much.

Next lesson we will cover numbers 1-15, high/medium/low, more animal words and we will start to learn Basic Kata 1. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again there! Bye for now and well done again!
